ATOD & Acrobatic Arts Exam information
Please see information below that further explains how exams work and the benefits.
- Exams will be under Australian Teachers of Dance (ATOD) Syllabus including Acrobatic Arts Syllabus.
- Exams we are providing are Ballet, Jazz and Acrobatics.
- Each class will work on the syllabus for each genre, which is a detailed technique and set exercise program. The student will need to learn and perform these exercises to their highest standard in front of an examiner who will be grading the student.
- Each student will start at a grade their teacher deems suitable for each individual student. The student will continue to move up in grades through the syllabus as they pass their exams.
- Exams will be held once a year, roughly around term 2 and term 3.
- Exams classes will only run between term 1 and 3.
- Class costs – $100 per term per 1/2hr class
- The cost to participate in an exam varies on the level, but the lower levels where most will be starting at run from $38 to $76 per exam.
- Uniforms are also compulsory for the exam day and an added cost.
- Jazz and Ballet exams will be held on the same day. Acrobatic exams will be held an additional day.
Benefits
Exam work’s main focus is technique. It is important for students to learn correct technique in order to improve and master their skills as they progress and develop. Technique is also covered in the student’s normal classes, but exam work takes this to a higher level. Exam work motivates the student to reach higher goals as they pass their exams and continue moving up through the more challenging grades.
If the student has done dance exam work, this is often recognised as extra class points to go towards further studies in senior years of school.
